The party “Strength in Unity” was formed on 4 April 2007, but on 24 October 2012 the name of the party was changed to the political party “Alternative”. At the same time the board members of the party Vitālijs Bukovskis, Vilis Greckis, Oļegs Kolosovs and Valdis Medveckis were dismissed and they were replaced by the new board.
MANAGEMENT OF „ALTERNATIVE”
The chairwoman of the board if the party “Alternative” is Natālija Bokučava.
Members of the board are: Jevgeņijs Carevs, Anatolijs Kižlo, Igors Kolosovs, Anita Laizāne, Natālija Mirska, Vladimirs Romančenko and Nataļja Steļmaha.
Members of the council are: Member of the European Parliament Aleksandrs Mirskis, sworn lawyer Andrejs Ādamsons, entrepreneur Jevgēnijs Carjovs, gynaecologist Sergo Bokučava, entrepreneur Igors Kolosovs, economist Andrejs Burvis and enterpreneur Genādijs Aksjonovs.

Political party “Alternative” has not run for the elections to the Parliament.
„ALTERNATIVE” IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
In the local elections of 2013 no representatives of “Alternative” were elected in the Riga City Council. However, the representatives of the party have been elected to other 5 local governments: Mihails Rogals in Salaspils municipality, Jevgeņijs Carevs and Vladimirs Borisjonoks in Daugavpils City Council, Vjačeslavs Dubovskis in Rēzekne City Council, Igors Kolosovs and Tatjana Kubecka in Rēzekne municipality, whereas Ilze Grolmusa in Viļāni municipality.
In 2013 the party violated regulations regarding procedure of the completion of declaration of income and expenses of elections for political organisations and parties – they submitted false information in the declaration and received an illegal contribution. The total sum of violations was LVL 6585.99, and Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau imposed the party a fine of LVL 300.
„ALTERNATIVE” IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
In 2009 elections Aleksandrs Mirskis, who at that time represented alliance “Harmony Centre”, was elected to the European Parliament (EP). However in January 2011 he left SC. In EP Aleksandrs Mirskis represents “Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats”, and is running for the EP elections in 2014 as the leader of the list of “Alternative”.
